Top Ten Lipsticks for Spring

As the seasons change, I like to change up the colors of the lipsticks I wear. For Spring, I prefer various shades of purples and pinks. While I’m usually a matte kind of girl, I’ll add in some cream lipsticks for a bit of a change. Aesthetically, this works really well because Spring often calls for softer makeup and a more “dewy” look. While this can look pleasing, cream lipsticks are a little more difficult to maintain. Using a lip liner before hand can help keep things in place as well as help the color last a little longer. For this post, I wanted to show y’all ten of my favorite lipsticks for Spring. I chose five drug store lipsticks and five from “prestige” brands. This way, it’ll be easier to pick up a new color for Spring. So let's get started!

Name: NYX High Voltage Lipstick in “Playdate”

Price: $5.99 at Ulta

Description: This is a creamy lipstick in a beautiful lavender shade. It is very comfortable on the lips and the shape helps create an easy application. This is an odd color but very appropriate within the Spring time color scheme. I think that it looks a little off because I’m still pretty pale from the winter but I find it very flattering whenever I become a bit more tan. If you want to make this a matte shade, apply some translucent powder on top to set it!

Name: Mac Retro Matte Lipstick in “Flat Out Fabulous”

Price: $17 at MAC

Description: Mac describes this shade as a “bright plum” and yeah that’s definitely spot on. This is probably my favorite shade out of the ten. This was one of the very first MAC lipsticks I bought and I’m still obsessed with it. It is just such a beautiful color that WILL NOT budge. Seriously. This thing is retro matte and it stays on your freaking lips. While this is awesome because you don’t have to worry about it throughout the day, it can be a little drying. You are going to want to make sure you exfoliate and moisturize your lips before putting this baby on!

Name: Anastasia Liquid Lipstick in “Sweet Talker”

Price: $20 at Macys

Description: While this isn’t my favorite liquid lipstick formula, I love the shade way too much to keep it off the list. The color is a vibrant watermelon pink that I think is perfect for Spring and Summer. The formula can be a bit annoying because it really emphasizes the fine lines in your lips. While I am not crazy about that, it is very opaque and easy to apply.

Name: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Antwerp”

Price: $5.99 at Ulta

Description: This is a gorgeous rose/blush pink color that is in a matte finish. I frequent a lot of different makeup forums and this seems to be one product that gets mixed reviews. I have about seven different SMLC shades and I find that the formula works really well with me. The only problems I have had have been with the darker shades (like Transylvania) but for the rest, they are long wearing, super comfortable, and come in a variety of awesome shades.

Name: NYX Intense Butter Gloss in “Toasted Marshmallow”

Price: $5.99 at Ulta

Description: So clearly NYX is my drugstore brand of choice but hey, you can get it at Ulta and most of their stuff is really good quality for a low price. This is deep mauve-y plum color that is hella glossy. Seriously. Like do not wear this if it is windy and you are wearing your hair down because you will regret it. I normally do not go for glosses but I could not resist this color. Also, the gloss goes well with the dewy look of Spring.

Name: KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in “Double Dare”

Price: $20 at Sephora

Description: The Kat Von D liquid lipsticks are my favorite formula out of all the ones I have tried so far (MAC, Tarte, Anastasia, The Balm) because they are super comfortable on the lips, do not crack or flake, and go on evenly. As soon as I got Double Dare, I wore it for like a week straight. No lie. It is described as a “cocoa blush” and is my go-to lipstick whenever I feel like doing a more natural look. Since it is one of the newer KVD shades, it is often sold out online. If you think this is a must have, get Sephora to notify you via email when it is back in stock!

Name: Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick in “Shocking Coral” (870)

Price: $7.99 at Ulta

Description: This is a neon coral lipstick in a creamy finish. When they named this line Vivids, they were not joking. This lipstick is super vibrant and fun. This is a good lipstick to own because it can make an easy transition into your Summer collection as well. This will also leave a faint stain on your lips so if it wears over time, you will still have a little bit of color left on your lips! I brought this with me to Bonnaroo a couple of Summers ago and was pretty pleased with how it held up over the weekend.

Name: MAC Matte Lipstick in Tropic Tonic

Price: $17 at MAC

Description: This is my favorite coral out of my collection because it is very vibrant and comfortable on the lips while still maintaining its matte formula! When I am in a hurry, instead of applying it normally to the lips, I will apply chap stick and then blot this on the lips. This will give you a light coral stain that will last a couple of hours before you need to reapply. This also pairs perfectly with my favorite blush to use in the Spring, Too Faced’s Love Flush Blush in “I Will Always Love You”

Name: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in “Kiss Me Coral” (750)

Price: $7.99 at Ulta

Description: While Tropic Tonic is right in the middle of pink and orange, Kiss Me Coral leans more towards the orange side. This is a creamy lipstick that feels great on the lips but can be a bit messy. I would definitely recommend checking in the mirror a couple times throughout the day to make sure this hasn’t smudged or gotten on your teeth. While it takes a bit more work than a matte lipstick, it is a gorgeous orange toned coral that is perfect for a brunch date or a shopping day. Or you know, whatever you wanna wear it to because I’m not gonna tell you what to do. Do you, boo. But I probably wouldn’t wear this on a night out because I usually don’t feel like worrying about my lipstick smearing.

Name: MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in “Runway Hit”

Price: $17 at MAC

Description: This is described as a “light nude matte” on the website but pulls a bit too light pink for me to consider it a true nude. This will vary depending on your natural lip shade and your skin tone of course! Color descriptions aside, this is another retro matte so it is definitely going to stay in place. Application will tug your lips though so make sure you apply some chap stick beforehand. This color goes along with the dreamy color scheme of Spring and this is the only time of the year that I don’t feel the need to mix it with a darker color. If you want to peach up some brown/nude shades that you own, apply this over top! Not only will it lock in the lipstick (because it is super matte) but it will also help create a more customized nude for you.

Thank you all for reading about my favorite lipsticks for Spring! I hope that you find this helpful when choosing your go-to Spring lipstick. :)
